Welcome to the next installment of a video series where we tell you about the products and processes we use to build our quality homes.
Since we started building houses in 2004, we’ve been using high performance house wrap on all of our homes. In 2019, we made the switch to Zip System. Using quality products is our top priority and we made the switch to the Zip System because we believe it is the best system we can put on the exterior of our homes.
The Zip System gives the same benefit of a high performance house wrap would in that it lets the moisture escape but not penetrate back in from the outside of the home. We are also able to seal up the envelope of the house.The insulation process is much easier and it is made with the same resin as the AdvanTech® subfloor we use. This means there is no deterioration of the exterior OSB of the home when we are framing the home.
One of the unique features of the Zip System is how it is manufactured. There are a bed of chips that are coated in the resins and the overlay (which can be green or red) during the manufacturing process. It is one structural and integrated water resistant barrier so you can’t actually separate the two. The black tape covers all of the seams and is made from with acrylic based adhesion, the same adhesion used in water sports and car emblems. Think of the Zip System as a cell phone case. It seals the building up by preventing water from getting in and still allowing the home to breathe. It also comes with a 30-year system warranty.
